Well, perhaps not exactly a contest, but it gets the point across.
!!! UNKNOWN CONTENT TYPE !!!
Here’s the idea:
To rally the community in these trying times we will have a showcase of sorts for all the members to participate; this showcase will be of photography with one caveat. Each photo must be taken in or around your domicile.
You don’t need to be an experienced photographer, own a nice camera, or even have a particularly interesting home to participate. We want to celebrate our efforts in social distancing so this will showcase our respective confines.
Of course, a picture of the slightly messy living room of a small apartment likely wouldn’t be terribly interesting, so you may want to consider isolating a single detail, whether that be an uncommon trinket, intriguing item, or whatever really.
The idea is really best got across with photos, so take a gander:
Those were taken with a crappy cheap camera phone by me inside my house or yard with a 30 second edit to bump the contrast and fix the lighting. You really don’t have to be experienced to try, so what are you waiting for? Get out there and have some fun!
I will periodically repost in preparation for the final showcase; it will consist of a collection of contributions and I will let you guys pick your favorites.
For now, be on the lookout for photo opportunities and drop them below when you are ready.
Try to limit it to no more than three, but really these are just loose guidelines. Have fun!

Well here is one I just took.

Carbon vinyl wrapped my headphones. Because apparently everyone at the office decided the Sony was the headphone of the year

(looks at what’s on phone) I have a few mediocre ones.

The 1000xm3? I’m wearing those right now. What a fucking marvel of technology I tell you hwat.

I was a 2 generation Bose affectionato and these converted me. I love them!

That guitar one is pretty good. The view into the woods is also positively serene, something I really need right about now.
![]() 04/23/2020 at 20:36 |

I still have a working pair Of QC25s that I love for their comfort. The sound plus wireless benefits of the Sony make them my favourite, but the Bose are so light that you can wear them for hours without noticing. To me, the Sony are just slightly less comfortable, something I noticed on a long flight.
![]() 04/23/2020 at 20:40 |
|
My QC15’s just lost their right speaker last year and I was super bummed. Loved the lightness and comfort. Wore them 16 hours on a flight to Hong Kong no problem. With the Sony, it starts to hurt after 4 hours. So I’m not totally sold on the comfort.

Two I just took within a few foot walking distance...with my crappy phone camera, lol.

I like the clock one. The pendulum clearly is in motion, unlike my shot of a broken clock, giving it a sense of moment. Mine is just depressingly dead.

If that cake weren’t full of gluten it would have made me very hungry. Oh wait, I am hungry. Curse you! I’ve been trying to figure out the other one. Basket inside a cupboard?
![]() 04/23/2020 at 20:57 |

Don’t say you aren’t creative. Inexperienced with photography, perhaps, but that is a good photo. This is clearly imaginative and I quite like it.
![]() 04/23/2020 at 20:59 |
|
I'll go take some photos with this in mind tomorrow. Do photos in the swamp behind my house count?
![]() 04/23/2020 at 21:06 |
|
Absolu tely! The idea is basically just a photographic embodiment of social distancing so a secluded nature area on or near your house is exactly in the spirit of this.
![]() 04/23/2020 at 21:09 |

I’m a marketing major, creativity is outside my skill set

It’s a ‘86 MIJ Fender. Have had it since ‘ 91 or so.
Bridge is what they called a “Fender System 1" (installed on Japanese Fenders and Squires in the 80s) and it was made by Schaller.

My office is the basement, and where I have been working for the last month. Decided to change the strings on the S trat one day, and that’s the view out of the back door at sunrise. :)

Well I mostly take pictures of Sylvie these days haha, she is always surprising us.
We live right next to Corte Madera Creek, there are a bunch of doctors offices and there is nobody around there, we sit on their benches by the water and Sylvie watches the ducks.

Oppo can never have too much Sylvie. That first shot in particular is very nice.
That's neat that you live near a mostly deserted Creek with a good viewing platform. Not much water around here at all. Not even a single natural lake.
![]() 04/23/2020 at 23:13 |
|
You even gave it a title. Nice. Great colors and composition here. It falls very well to the eye.

I live in a canyon of Manhattan. To get some light into my loft I have mounted lightweight plastic mirrors to bounce some rays into the cave. One day, the light was so perfect outside it created a camera obscura on my wall.
![]() 04/23/2020 at 23:25 |

Thanks, yeah we are near water, the creek goes to the Bay and we are only 15min from a beach I can surf at, but not right now!! They should let us surf not hang out at the beach, just go in and out. The showers at the beach are in their own stalls, pre socially distanced!
![]() 04/23/2020 at 23:30 |
|
That’s fantastic! I love how the whole scene is at a jaunty angle almost like you were a bird soaring through the “canyon,” as you said. I don’t think I’ve ever seen the effect on such a large canvas.
![]() 04/23/2020 at 23:36 |
|
Perhaps, but that is much more difficult to enforce and might seem unfair to the type of people who don’t like anyone else to have more fun than them. I would love to have waterways nearby to just sit and watch.
The state of Georgia has next to no natural lakes and not many rivers. There is the Chattahoochee near Atlanta but that isn’t navigable and was also purposely avoided by the railroads that spawned settlement in the region, so aquatic fun is not very accessible inland. There are the large man made lakes Acworth and Altoona but those don’ t have many public access areas. Most of the shore is private land.

I was in the south only once and I was really uncomfortable! I’m from Hawaii so I need mountains and ocean, flat places really bother me. Surfing is a way of life, it’s pretty rough to tell us not to go in the ocean.
![]() 04/23/2020 at 23:50 |
|
What part of the south? The foothills of the Appalachians are not flat by any means but as you get towards the east coast it gets much much flatter. Not exactly wide open spaces unless there is a cotton or peanut farm nearby (very likely) but pretty flat with endless pine forests.
And then Florida is entirely flat, entirely humid, and entirely boring to look at.
The area around Atlanta and its northern suburbs tends to be reasonably hilly and I do like the variety in elevation, but there are few mountains.
Kennesaw Mountain National Battlefield Park nearby is not a tall mountain at all.
And Stone Mountain stands out because it is not in a hilly area.
But I can see how the lack of ocean might be jarring. A ren’t the deserts just inland much flatter than the southeast though ?

We swung up from crossing the country through TX. I didn’t get up where the mountains were. We had some strange experiences in Louisiana, very strange (racist stuff right off the bat) . I’m going to stick to the Pacific.

Haha let me guess. Some sort of trinket under a green Rock lamp. I think it is some sort of scale model of a coil thingy of some sort. If you don’t tell I won’t tell you what this is.
![]() 04/24/2020 at 00:13 |
|
It’s not a trinket, it’s actually part of the neck and is attached to the green glowing part, which is itself only a small part of a larger whole...
![]() 04/24/2020 at 00:17 |

Never been to Texas. Never been wes t even in the loosest definition. Like, Florida panhandle is my Western most bound, making the cancellation of my Western road trip from a few weeks ago hurt even more.
Sorry to hear about your bad experiences. Racism still has some strongholds in rural areas, though with the mix of people around Atlanta with the airport it is pretty much impossible to not know several people from all corners of the globe, even outside the suburbs. Progress has been painfully slow in more isolated areas further from major cities.
I am a mountain person myself. The flat pine forests of Florida in particular bore me to death, but give me some curves and switchbacks and I'm all about it.

Rusty Vandura actually proposed a sort of micro trinket photography contest as a follow-up and i get the feeling the idea would be well received.
I am guessing it is a light up swiveling table attached to a chair so that you have a place to work once you sit down. I like those things but have no idea why it would be lit. Any ideas on mine?
![]() 04/24/2020 at 00:29 |

Cool. I’ve never seen that bridge in the wild. Those 80s Japanese Strats are so sweet. I’ve got a 70s lawsuit Fujigen Gaki made thinline....before Fender got wise and started working with them. I’ve also got a MIM mid 90s HSS Olympic white with tortoise shell. Graphtech bridge. It’s so versatile and rock solid. I’ve got a bit of a herd...they kinda follow me home. Do you play much?
![]() 04/24/2020 at 01:30 |
|
It would be pretty hard to use the object in my photo as a table or chair, though I suppose you could maybe count it as a piece of furniture...
A trinket photography contest would be fun, I have lots of trinkets.
My current guess on the object in your photo is “hedgehog automaton”.
![]() 04/24/2020 at 06:53 |

I also have a Kramer Focus 1000, and a Washburn N2, a Gramme
r acoustic, a piece of shit bass I bought for recording, and a classical and a banjo I never play.
Used to gig, used to write and record, now I just pick one of them up for like, 10 minutes a day. It’s been the Strat lately since the strings are fresh.
I bought the Strat from a friend of mine because I needed a backup guitar for shows. It also came in handy because some of the stuff we played need ed more than a single humbucker the Kramer had. I paid $200 for it. Tired of switching guitars every third song, I bought the Washburn to solve that because it had coil splitting and a neck pickup. Could play everything with that one. Still my favorite guitar to record with.
Oh, and there’s my Moog synth.
![]() 04/24/2020 at 10:19 |
|
No no, this is related to a bad habit. It fits neatly inside a china vase thing with a lid. No hedgehogs involved.
As for yours, it is definitely a pivoting reading lamp of some variety, just a strange one that uses some sort of light up plastic enclosu re presumably shaped like something.
![]() 04/24/2020 at 10:42 |
|
Nope. You’re right about it being a lamp, though.
Is your thing an artsy cigarette holder?
![]() 04/24/2020 at 11:01 |
|
Yes, you got it! I don’t have any smokes to hide, but I don’t think anyone would ever look there if I were. The holder lifts up with the top and anchors itself in place.
As for yours,
+
?

Oh man, that Kramer. I’d love it for the AiC covers I do .
Thanks for sharing that link, its killer . That was a good way to start the day. I was waiting for Rivers to come in.

No, but you can see more of my lamp in the picture with back-lit Voldemort. He’s sitting on top of it, and the lamp is providing all the light in the photo.

From a couple days ago - a pano on my phone.
![]() 04/25/2020 at 23:02 |

Now if that isn’t breathtakingly beautiful I don’t know what is. Does it appear shorter in length because it was a panoramic? You just don’t see that much of a rainbow when there are hills and trees in the way.
![]() 04/25/2020 at 23:46 |

Maybe slightly, but it really was right there in my “backyard”. Glad my wife spotted it! Can you see the double on the outside?

![]() 04/26/2020 at 21:13 |

Yup, the same peak featured in the other two photos actually. I hiked up there one day before everything closed down. The house is just a spec on the hillside but its there in the center. There is a trail that goes through Pt Mugu State park from just down the street and gets you about 90% of the way there and then its a scramble up a dry creek to the absolute peak up there.
![]() 04/26/2020 at 21:17 |
|
I stole the idea from elsewhere. So I took the photo last night I think.
Added some butter.. mmm
I know what you mean as the gluten free bread my wife gets is sometimes pretty tough. It’s not easy to make a grilled cheese because the bread doesn’t transfer heat like regular bread.
![]() 04/26/2020 at 21:21 |
|
Well gluten acts as glue so foods free of that allergen tend to fall apart into a sloppy moist pile of di sappointment. I think GF pizza is the worst offender, with the sauce invariably falling off the tough and unapp etizing crust the moment you pick it up. Unfortunately, I abstain from necessity, which means I’ve seen the food get so so so much better now that people don’t look at you like you might explode at any moment once informed of your allergy.
Good picture at any rate.
![]() 04/26/2020 at 21:32 |

No, just for people who didn't see it last time. Trying to get the morning afternoon and evening crowds so one more repost should do before the showcase.
![]() 04/27/2020 at 07:05 |
|
Wait, why is my car there?
![]() 04/27/2020 at 10:04 |
|
That car is apparently infested with mice. So I don't think you want that particular one lol.
![]() 04/27/2020 at 10:07 |
|
I would totally buy it. Ive got alot of barn cats that will take care of that right quick. They looking to sell?
![]() 04/27/2020 at 19:05 |
|
I'm pretty sure the mice hide in there because of the many natural predators around. Including snakes, mountain lion, bobcats, birds, and probably a coyote too. He did say there's a dead one somewhere in the car due to the smell inside. So uhh I don't think you want that one lol.
![]() 04/27/2020 at 19:59 |
|
I mean, for the right price I would absolutely buy it because I want it for parts for fixing my other solara . Granted maybe it runs? Im guessing no if its infested. Are you in the US?
![]() 04/28/2020 at 00:28 |
|
I've certainly seen him driving it. He drives his G37 more (or Q whatever it is). But he definitely uses the Toyota for trips to the airport and things like that. No idea if he's trying to get rid of it but I can ask haha. I'm in socal so at least it's probably not rusty at all.
